This very grownup dessert will make you look (and be?) very sophisticated
When I was a uni student I used to imagine my 'proper' adult life as a kind of glittery montage of rom-com style coming-of-age moments - dancing in a fountain in Paris with my girlfriends, breezing into work with only a spritz of dry shampoo separating me from the night before, and and endless parade of swanky champagne sloshing dinner parties in my pristine loft apartment with quirky hand-painted crockery.
And all of this came to pass go me the end. Or not. Of course, my 'proper' adult reality is decidedly less interesting than my uni-days projections, and so far precisely 0% of it has taken place in the New York loft setting I so confidently envisioned for myself at age 19. But I have dessert figured out for the odd occasions when I actually do have a dinner party.
The basic premise is that you dip biscuits in wine, which I realise sounds like a retrograde step in the quest for peak sophistication, but bear with me. It's dessert wine, and italian 'cantucci' biscuits, which as far as I can tell are indistinguishable from biscotti. It's an actual thing actual Italian people do, so it's legit, and the combination of hard crunchy biscuits with syrupy, apricot-y dessert wine is a real winner. There's no cooking involved, and you don't have to spend a lot to get a great pudding wine. A few of my faves are below.
